Curriculum

Our Head Boy & Head Girl

Our Head Boys and Head Girls are very important positions in school. As role models, they need to follow the school values at all times. In September, they must deliver a speech to the school to tell everyone why they would make an excellent Head Boy or Girl, and everyone in the school has a vote. We are proud of celebrating the British Value of Democracy at our school. This year, our Head Boy is Felix, Deputy is Joel, Head Girl is Percy and Deputy is Ivie.

Special Projects 2019-20

World Book Day – 5th March 2020

In the afternoon, we invited parents to come in and share stories with the children. Our assembly focus was on poetry this year, and children and staff enjoyed performing their favourite poems.

Emerald Class tested their airplanes today to see which ones would go furthest. They adapted their planes to try to make them fly further.

Year 5 Maths Challenge at Queen Elizabeth High School

We sent a year 5 team to the maths challenge. Lois said: “It was difficult and scary to start with, but it was fine once we got going.”

Foundation and Key Stage 1 Nativity

Well done to all of the children who performed a wonderful nativity to parents.

Christingle Service

On 9th December, we invited parents to our Christingle Service. Everyone thought it was lovely. Finty and Chloe said, “At the end it was really magical when we lit all of the candles.” So far, we have raised £138 for the Children’s Society.

Art Projects 2018-19

We ran an art and design club

Children designed a decoration for a Christmas cake and then they made their own decorations. Here are some of the results.

Children designed and made their own bunting and they also made photo frames.

Autumn Term

Plastic pollution

As part of this project, we invited an artist into school to work with us on creating a sculpture to raise awareness of the issue. Every child in the school was involved in the project. We were all thrilled with the final sculpture.

Recycled poppy

We all recycled plastic bottles to make a poppy. The poppies were put together into our own remembrance wall of poppies.

Summer Term 2019

Ruby Class are studying the Romans

They have done some Roman mosaics, which also links to their work on Islamic patterns. Here is a quick preview of what they’ve produced so far. These still need grouting and they will be on show soon.

P.E. Activities 2018-19

Professional Coaching

This year, children in Ruby Class have been able to take part in archery classes with a professional coach. Sapphire class will be doing archery in the Summer Term.

Hockey Coaching

We had a coach to teach us hockey in the Autumn Term. Pupils in Sapphire and Ruby classes learned lots of new skills and had great fun learning to play hockey.

Bikeability

In order to stay safe on the roads, our pupils took part in the Bikeability scheme.

Rainforest dance routine

As part of their Rainforests topic, Ruby Class created a dance routine that they performed to parents, where they also demonstrated their new drumming skills.

Witham Hill Gymnasium

In the Summer Term, all children from Reception to Year 6 had the opportunity to do a series of lessons at Witham Hill Gymnasium with trained coaches in a state-of-the-art gymnasium. Here are some KS2 photos.

Centurion Sports Day

Summer Term 2019

Along with the other schools in the partnership, we took part in the Centurion Sports Day. Our children had great fun working with children in other schools.

STEM 2018-19

We were lucky enough to have a STEM Ambassdor into our school from Rolls-Royce. Laura worked with children across the school. In Emerald and Sapphire Classes, children made air-powered cars, which they designed, made, tested and evaluated. Some of the cars travelled a long way! In Ruby Class, they children learned more about electrical circuits.
