These are important years for children in their holistic development. We focus on developing social skills and embracing the whole curriculum; core and foundation subjects.
This year, we cover the following topics:
We have lots of exciting experiences for the children, such as residential visits, projects and themed days in school.
Reading is something we love to do and we really hope you can share this experience with your child. We have incorporated this into our curriculum and use ‘book studies’ regularly in reading and composition lessons. We ask you to listen to or read to your child as much as you can and write a note in their diary to tell us about their experience and understanding. Each child will take home a Lexile book that they have chosen. At The Marton Academy, gaining enjoyment from reading is really important to us, therefore each week the children can choose a book from the library that particularly interests them. Children are given time in school to read for pleasure and staff share their love for reading with the children too.
These are used to communicate between parents and teachers. The staff in class will check your child’s diary regularly. Please write a note when your child has read and any other comments you would like to share. The more reading you do with your child, the better! When they have read, please ask them questions about what they have read to make sure they understand the text.
Spellings will be given out each week on a Monday and children will be tested on these the following Monday. You will find your child’s spellings in their Home School Diary which will be stuck in each week. An additional ‘Fluent in Five’ maths activity will be set each week (set Friday to Friday). Regularly, a ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ tournament will be set for children to practise their times tables. We ask that children practise their times tables a minimum of 3 times a week and that children are listened to read, each day, for a minimum of 10 minutes.
We pride ourselves on our uniform. Children should all come to school wearing full school uniform (please see website for full details on uniform permitted). On P.E. days, children should have a white P.E. top, black shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers or plimsolls.
Class Dojo is used to share learning that takes place in school. We will regularly post pictures of work or activities that the children get up to. The platform also gives you the opportunity to share your children’s achievements and independent learning they do. These are wonderful opportunities for your child to present to class about what they have learnt or achieved outside of school. These moments promote great discussion around the subject area.
We use Discovery RE to compliment our Religious Education curriculum. Parents and carers should be aware that they have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE teaching. Please speak to Mr Green should you wish to discuss withdrawing your child.
Should the need arise, Miss Roberts (Y3/4 Teacher) and Mr Green (Head Teacher) will be contactable through the message section of the app.
For more information about the Key Stage 2 curriculum, please contact Miss Roberts or Mr Green.
